CHRISTIAN RITTER
...........................................................................................................................
My photographic journey goes back to the excitement of my first
travel, which then was to summer camp in Northern Germany. Fascinated
by storing my favorite moments in a little box my camera has become
a steady and welcomed companion throughout my voyages into new places.
Since then my passion for travelling, photography and meeting new
people has only become stronger and my unique yet diverse professional
career keeps taking me into new surroundings like a modern gipsy.
My photographic
interest lies mainly in capturing living portraits of people, showing
them as they are and in the beauty of the moment. Saving those little
instances of warmth, dignity, joy or even sadness that so beautifully
describe each personality. In combining several of those moments
and personalities together I hope to highlight a few of the characteristics
that make a certain place or country so special.
To reflect the warmth and hospitality of the different people I
was happy to encounter so many times I would like to share my favorite
images with this digital imagery. As a starting point I included
my latest body of work from day trips to my favorite New York City
and my latest assignment, which took me on Mayan paths to Guatemala.
The big city is in itself a separate world while at the same time
a symbiosis of the entire globe and just too fascinating a place
for people watching and portraying. Guatemala was chosen destiny
to discover the spirit of the place in a workshop with Doug Beasley
and various events enclosing the 'Day of the Death' gave ample opportunity
to create vivid portraits of moments and persons in dignity, celebration
and remembrance and on transition from indigenous past to modern
times.
After living most of my life in Germany and a few years in The Netherlands
I currently reside on Long Island, NY, my friends being spread out
even further. Wherever you are I hope that you enjoy my imagery
and capture a little of the joy, excitement and inspiration to be
guest in a different part of the world, which may not even be 10
minutes away.
