Many
of Evans' most evocative images were made in 1935 - 36, for the
US government's Farm Security Administration. This was to be his
most seminal work. In 1938 the museum of modern art honored Evans
with its first one-man photography exhibition, Walker Evans American
Photographs. Over one half of the 100 photographs shown were from
the FSA series-recognition that while these images succeeded as
clear and dispassionate records, they represented higher value as
lyric documents. Exhibit opens 10/23/08 reception 10/24/08 @ 8PM
RSVP please. sjr@livinginphoto.com |
